Grilled BBQ Chicken Pizza: Your Ultimate 10-Minute Crust Recipe for Effortless Summer Dinners

As the sun shines brighter and the days stretch longer, the call of the grill becomes irresistible. For many, summer means firing up the barbecue several nights a week, savoring the distinct smoky flavors that only outdoor cooking can provide. Not only does grilling impart an incredible taste to your food, but it also offers a welcome reprieve for your indoor kitchen, keeping your home cool and potentially lowering those electricity bills. Among the many delights of summer grilling, one dish stands out for its speed, versatility, and sheer deliciousness: grilled pizza. Forget waiting for delivery or heating up your oven; grilled pizza is surprisingly quick to make – even faster than traditional hot dogs – and offers endless possibilities for customization.

Imagine gathering your family or friends, each preparing their perfect pizza with an array of fresh ingredients. It’s an interactive, fun, and incredibly satisfying dining experience. While individual customization is fantastic, sometimes simplicity is key. For those nights when you want a guaranteed crowd-pleaser without the fuss, this Grilled BBQ Chicken Pizza is an absolute winner. It combines savory barbecue chicken with a perfectly crisp crust, all prepared with minimal effort and maximum flavor.

The Secret to Speed: A Revolutionary 10-Minute Pizza Crust

The cornerstone of this incredibly quick and easy grilled pizza recipe is its phenomenal 10-minute crust. Yes, you read that right – 10 minutes from start to ready-to-grill dough! This isn’t just fast; it’s genuinely awesome. This innovative crust eliminates the long waiting times typically associated with homemade pizza, making it accessible even on the busiest weeknights. The secret lies in using a specially formulated yeast designed for rapid results, allowing you to bypass the traditional rising period without compromising on texture or flavor.

I rely on Fleischmann’s Pizza Crust Yeast for its consistent performance and ease of use. This unique yeast is engineered specifically for quick pizza crusts, containing dough relaxers that make the dough incredibly easy to shape and handle. You won’t find yourself battling an elastic, shrinking dough that resists your efforts to stretch it out. Instead, you’ll have a cooperative, pliable dough that forms beautiful, rustic crusts perfect for the grill. This means you can have your pizzas cooking before anyone even starts asking, “What’s for dinner?” – a true lifesaver for parents and busy individuals alike.

Crafting Your Perfect BBQ Chicken Pizza: Simple Ingredients, Big Flavor

This recipe embraces convenience without sacrificing an ounce of flavor. To make it incredibly easy, I often start with pre-cooked ingredients like Tyson grilled chicken strips. They’re a fantastic shortcut, but feel free to substitute with shredded rotisserie chicken or any leftover cooked chicken you have on hand. Another time-saving tip: bake your bacon in advance. Baking bacon is a revelation – it cooks evenly, minimizes mess, and results in perfectly crispy strips every time. Crumble it up, and you’re halfway to a sensational topping.

The combination of tangy barbecue sauce, sweet red onion, succulent chicken, crispy bacon, and creamy cheddar cheese creates a symphony of flavors that is universally loved. A final drizzle of ranch dressing and a sprinkle of fresh cilantro (or green onions for a milder taste) elevate this pizza to gourmet status with minimal effort. This specific combination is incredibly balanced, offering a blend of smoky, sweet, and savory notes that truly make it a standout meal.

Grilling Pizza Like a Pro: Essential Tips for Success

Successfully grilling pizzas, especially with a speedy crust, comes down to one key principle: preparation. Have all your ingredients ready and organized before you even think about putting the dough on the grill. Set out small bowls or plates with your barbecue sauce, chopped onions, cooked chicken, crumbled bacon, and shredded cheese. If you’re hosting a pizza party, empower your guests to create their own culinary masterpieces by letting them choose from a vibrant spread of toppings.

The grill cooks pizza incredibly fast, typically just 3-4 minutes per side for the crust alone. You absolutely do not want to be running back into the kitchen to grab the pizza sauce while your crust is charring. Once your crust is lightly browned on one side, carefully remove it from the grill, add your toppings to the grilled side, and then return it to the grill for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. This two-stage grilling process ensures a perfectly cooked crust and beautifully melted toppings.

Ingredients

Crust

  • 3-1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • .25 oz Fleischmann’s® Pizza Crust Yeast (1 envelope)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/3 cups very warm water (120 to 130°F)
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • Additional flour for rolling
  • Additional oil for grilling

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/4 cup red onion, chopped
  • 2 cups chicken, cooked and cubed
  • 8 strips bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 to 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup ranch dressing
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh cilantro (or chopped green onion)

Instructions

  1. Start charcoal fire or preheat gas grill to medium-high heat.
  2. Combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Add very warm water and oil; mix until well blended, approximately 1 minute.
  4. Gradually add enough remaining flour to make a soft dough. The dough should form a ball and will be slightly sticky.
  5. Knead on a lightly floured surface, adding additional flour if necessary, until smooth and elastic (approximately 5 minutes). A stand mixer with a dough hook works beautifully for this.
  6. Divide dough into 6-8 portions.
  7. Pat or roll dough on a well-floured surface until they reach your desired size and thickness. Embrace a rustic look – perfection isn’t the goal here!
  8. Brush both sides of the prepared pizza crusts with olive oil.
  9. Carefully lift each crust and place it directly on the hot grill grates.
  10. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes, until the bottom is lightly browned and the top appears set.
  11. Remove the crust from the grill and place it on a cutting board or baking sheet, grilled side up.
  12. Spread barbecue sauce over the grilled side of the crust. Top with chopped onions, cooked chicken, and crumbled bacon.
  13. Evenly sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the toppings.
  14. Repeat this topping process with the remaining pizza crusts.
  15. Carefully slide each assembled pizza back onto the grill.
  16. Cook for an additional 3 to 4 minutes, or until the bottom of the crust is golden brown and the cheese is beautifully melted and bubbly.
  17. Remove pizzas from the grill and sprinkle with fresh cilantro or green onions.
  18. Drizzle ranch dressing over the top of the pizzas if desired, and serve immediately for the best flavor!

For the Oven (Alternative Method)

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220°C).
  2. Prepare the pizza crusts and toppings as directed in steps 2-7 and 11-13 above. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Embrace the Rustic Charm of Grilled Pizza

One of the best things about grilled pizzas is their inherently rustic appeal. Don’t strive for a perfectly round, uniformly shaped crust; embrace the irregular edges and unique char marks that only a grill can provide. This relaxed approach makes grilled pizza a wonderfully fun and stress-free dinner option, perfect for involving the kids. Let them help with kneading the dough (it’s forgiving!) and definitely let them top their own creations. It’s all about enjoying the process and the delicious outcome, without any pressure for perfection.

The smoky flavor infused into the crust and toppings from the grill adds an extra dimension that an oven simply cannot replicate. Each bite offers a satisfying crunch from the perfectly cooked crust, followed by the rich, tangy BBQ chicken and melted cheese. It’s a meal that feels special and indulgent, yet it’s incredibly straightforward to prepare, leaving you more time to enjoy those precious summer evenings.

Beyond BBQ Chicken: Unleash Your Creativity

While this Grilled BBQ Chicken Pizza recipe is a classic for a reason, the beauty of homemade pizza on the grill is its incredible versatility. Once you master the 10-minute crust, the possibilities are endless. Consider a classic Margherita with fresh basil and mozzarella, a gourmet fig and prosciutto pizza, or even a breakfast pizza with eggs and sausage. Grilling fresh vegetables like bell peppers, zucchini, and mushrooms before adding them as toppings will deepen their flavor and add another layer of complexity to your creations. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different sauces, cheeses, and protein combinations to find your family’s next favorite grilled pizza variation.

This method of cooking pizza isn’t just about the food; it’s about the experience. It brings people together around the grill, fosters creativity in the kitchen (or backyard!), and delivers a meal that feels both wholesome and exciting. So, gather your ingredients, fire up the grill, and get ready to enjoy the easiest, most delicious pizza night of your summer!
