It feels like ages since I last shared a recipe featuring Reese’s, and for good reason! Any dish involving these iconic peanut butter cups tends to vanish in record time around here – sometimes even before I can snap enough pictures. Crafting delicious food and capturing it beautifully is a labor of love, especially when the results are this irresistible!

I had every intention of sharing these sweet little turkeys with you before my recent vacation, but as often happens, life intervened. Between managing daily routines, tackling endless laundry piles, searching for mysteriously missing shoes, and battling sheer exhaustion, time simply slipped away. But I’m back now, refreshed and happy, ready to share this fantastic recipe. While the usual chaos of life persists, the joy of creating and sharing these treats makes everything brighter!

Why Reese’s Turkeys Are the Perfect Thanksgiving Treat

It’s no secret that I have an unwavering affection for anything and everything Reese’s. From cookies and bars to decadent cheesecake, refreshing trifles, and even flavorful bread – if it features Reese’s, I’m absolutely in love with it! These delightful Reese’s Turkeys, however, hold a special place in my heart as one of my favorite ways to combine three distinct types of Reese’s into one irresistibly charming and edible creation.

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, family, and, of course, a feast! While the main course often gets all the attention, dessert offers a wonderful opportunity to add a touch of whimsy and joy. These Reese’s Turkeys do exactly that. They are remarkably simple to assemble, making them an ideal project for busy holiday preparations, and they’re incredibly versatile. Whether you’re looking for a fun activity with the kids, a unique contribution to a potluck, or just a sweet surprise for your loved ones, these candy turkeys fit the bill perfectly. Their adorable appearance makes them a fantastic centerpiece or a charming individual treat at each place setting.

The Art of Assembly: Choosing Your Reese’s

Creating these delightful turkeys is an exercise in thoughtful candy selection. You may have noticed a particular choice for the turkey’s head: Reese’s Dark Miniatures. This wasn’t by chance; there are two primary reasons behind this strategic ingredient selection. Firstly, I appreciate the subtle yet effective contrast in color between the richer, darker chocolate of the miniature and the classic milk chocolate of the full-size peanut butter cup forming the body. This creates a visually appealing distinction that elevates the overall look of your candy turkey.

Secondly, and perhaps more importantly for the ease of assembly, Reese’s Dark Miniatures have a wonderful tendency to peel cleanly from their foil wrappers. Unlike some other varieties that might leave behind frustrating bits of chocolate or peanut butter stuck to the packaging, these miniatures offer a smooth, intact candy experience right out of the wrapper. This is crucial when you want a flawless “head” for your turkey, ensuring a neat and professional finish.

Now, don’t misunderstand me – I absolutely revel in the simple pleasure of licking the sweet, chocolatey, and peanut buttery remnants from a Reese’s wrapper after enjoying the candy itself. It’s a small, delightful ritual. However, for these specific little turkey creations, the goal is to have each candy piece perfectly intact and pristine. The Dark Miniatures consistently deliver on this front, making them the superior choice for crafting these adorable holiday treats without any fuss.

Bringing Your Turkeys to Life: Eyes, Beak, and Feathers

The personality of these Reese’s Turkeys truly shines through their expressive faces. I used to craft these turkeys by simply using yellow Reese’s Pieces for the eyes, and that’s still a perfectly viable option if you prefer! However, I must admit, using Reese’s Pieces for eyes can sometimes give your turkeys a rather “cray cray” or slightly wild-eyed look, which can be fun but not always the charming aesthetic one aims for.

My go-to solution for more animated and endearing turkeys came with the discovery of cute little candy eyes, which are now widely available in the baking aisle of most major supermarkets, like Target. Ever since I started keeping these delightful candy eyes in stock, they’ve become an indispensable tool for all sorts of fun and creative food ideas, bringing instant character to any sweet treat.

The beauty of these turkeys lies in their simplicity and complete edibility. Every component – the full-size Reese’s body, the dark miniature head, the expressive candy eyes, the vibrant Reese’s Pieces for the beak and feathers – is held securely in place with a touch of what I affectionately call “chocolate glue.” This is simply melted chocolate, which acts as a fantastic adhesive when it cools and sets. The result is a sweet, festive bird that is 99.9% Reese’s, allowing the beloved chocolate and peanut butter flavors to be the absolute star of this charming holiday dessert, just the way I like it!

Ingredients

  • 8 full-size Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
  • 8 Reese’s Dark Peanut Butter Cups Miniatures
  • 48 Reese’s Pieces (for feathers and beak)
  • 16 candy eyes
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (for melting/glue)

Instructions

  1. Carefully unwrap all the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Reese’s Dark Miniatures, and have your Reese’s Pieces and candy eyes ready. Set them aside on a clean surface.
  2. Place the semi-sweet chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on medium heat for 15-second intervals, stirring well after each interval, until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. Be careful not to overheat.
  3. Carefully transfer the melted chocolate into a small plastic zip-top bag. Snip a tiny piece off one corner of the bag to create a fine piping tip. This will be your “chocolate glue.”
  4. Take a full-size Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup (this will be the turkey’s body). Pipe a small dot of melted chocolate onto the back of a Reese’s Dark Peanut Butter Cup Miniature (this will be the turkey’s head). Gently attach the miniature to the far side of the full-size cup, pressing lightly to secure.
  5. Next, pipe a tiny dot of melted chocolate onto the back of each candy eye. Carefully place the eyes onto the miniature (the turkey’s head), positioning them to give your turkey a friendly expression.
  6. Select an orange Reese’s Piece. Pipe a small amount of melted chocolate onto one side of the Reese’s Piece and attach it to the miniature, just below the eyes, to form the turkey’s beak.
  7. For the feathers, choose five colorful Reese’s Pieces for each turkey. Pipe a small amount of melted chocolate onto the back of each Reese’s Piece. Arrange and press these pieces onto the top, flat edge of the full-size Reese’s cup, creating a fan-like “tail” for your turkey.
  8. Allow the assembled Reese’s Turkeys to sit undisturbed at room temperature, or in the refrigerator for a few minutes, until the melted chocolate is completely firm and all the candy pieces are securely attached.
