Why These Reese’s Easter Bunnies Are a Must-Make
These whimsical Reese’s Easter Bunnies have been a springtime idea bouncing around in my head for quite some time, and I’m thrilled they finally hopped into existence just in time for the Easter holiday! This recipe is more than just a sweet treat; it’s an opportunity for memorable family fun. Here’s why these peanut butter cup bunnies are an absolute delight:
- Kid-Friendly Fun: The assembly process is straightforward and hands-on, making it an ideal activity for kids of all ages during Spring break or Easter weekend. Little hands can help with decorating, sticking on the features, and creating their own unique bunny personalities.
- Simple Ingredients: You’ll love that these bunnies require readily available ingredients that you can pick up at any grocery store, Target, or Walmart. No obscure items needed, just classic candies and a few simple decorative elements.
- Quick to Assemble: Despite their intricate appearance, these bunnies come together remarkably quickly. Once your candy coating is melted and ready, you’ll be surprised at how fast you can transform simple ingredients into an adorable Easter bunny army.
- Irresistibly Delicious: Who can resist the classic combination of peanut butter and chocolate? Using Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups as the base ensures these treats are not just cute, but incredibly tasty too. I used both white chocolate Reese’s and traditional milk chocolate versions, allowing for variety in flavor and appearance – choose your favorite!
- Versatile Decoration: The decorating possibilities are endless. Experiment with different colored sprinkles for whiskers, various M&M’s for eyes, and even different shades of pink sugar for the ears. Each bunny can have its own charm!
I’m going to guide you through each step with detailed instructions, ensuring that even if you’re new to candy crafting, your Reese’s Easter Bunnies will turn out perfectly. While there might seem to be several components, the process flows smoothly once you get started.
Crafting Your Adorable Easter Bunnies: A Step-by-Step Guide
Let’s dive into creating these charming little creatures. The most “complicated” part is probably the ears, but even that is a breeze once you know the trick!
Step 1: The Foundation – Perfect Bunny Ears
The ears are what truly bring these Reese’s Easter Bunnies to life, and creating them is a simple two-step process. Precision here ensures maximum cuteness!
- Begin by melting your white (vanilla) candy coating. You can do this according to the package directions, typically in a microwave-safe bowl or a double boiler. For easier handling and less mess, I recommend melting small batches, about a couple of ounces at a time, and then transferring the melted coating into a sturdy freezer or Ziploc bag. Some people even prefer melting the candy coating directly in the bag in the microwave, which works well too!
- Once your candy coating is in the bag, snip off a tiny corner with scissors. You want a small opening to allow for controlled piping. On a sheet of parchment paper, carefully pipe out the basic ear shapes. Think of them as elongated ovals with a slightly pointed top. Make sure to create enough sets of ears for all your planned Reese’s Easter Bunnies, plus a few extra just in case one breaks or doesn’t turn out exactly as desired. Set these aside to harden completely. This can take anywhere from 10-15 minutes at room temperature, or you can speed up the process by placing them in the refrigerator for 5 minutes.
- After the white ear shapes have hardened, it’s time to add the signature pink inner ear. Using your candy coating bag (or a new one with a tiny snip), pipe a small amount of melted coating onto the base of where you want the pink section to be. Immediately sprinkle a generous amount of pink sugar over the wet coating. The sugar will adhere to the coating, creating a beautiful, sparkling pink center. Allow these to dry and set again. Your adorable bunny ears are now complete and ready for assembly!

Step 2: Gathering Your Bunny Face Decorations
Before you start assembling, it’s helpful to have all your decorative elements ready and organized. For each Reese’s Easter Bunny, you will need:
- Two mini M&M’s for the eyes (choose colors like blue, green, or brown for a natural look, or get creative with brighter hues!).
- One pink marshmallow for the nose.
- Two white mini marshmallows for the cheeks.
- A small pinch of shredded coconut for the hair/fluffy forehead.
- Six sprinkles or jimmies of your chosen color for the whiskers (brown, white, or black work well, but feel free to experiment with pastels!).
Step 3: Assembling the Bunny Faces
Now for the truly fun part – bringing your bunnies to life! This is where the magic happens and their individual personalities start to shine.
- Take your hardened candy coating ears. Pipe a small dot of melted candy coating onto the flat bottom of each ear. Immediately press the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup onto the coated part, positioning the ears on top of the peanut butter cup, with the wider part facing down towards the cup. Hold gently for a few seconds to ensure they adhere, then let them set. You can pop them in the fridge for a minute or two to speed this up.

- Next, prepare your marshmallows. Cut each pink marshmallow in half crosswise to create two smaller, flatter pieces – these will be your bunny noses. For the white marshmallows, cut off the bottom third of each to give them a slightly flatter base, which will form the cheeks. The natural stickiness of marshmallows will often allow them to adhere to the Reese’s cup on their own, but for extra security, you can dab a tiny bit of melted candy coating on the back before placing them. Position the pink marshmallow half as the nose and the two white marshmallow pieces below it for cheeks.
- Using the remaining melted candy coating in your ziploc bag, squeeze out a tiny amount onto a piece of parchment paper. Dip one end of each mini M&M into this coating and then carefully place them above the nose for the eyes. Repeat this process for the sprinkles/jimmies to create the whiskers, placing three on each side of the nose. For the shredded coconut “hair,” dip a tiny pinch into the candy coating and gently press it onto the top of the Reese’s cup, between the ears. Remember, a little goes a long way for these delicate features!
- Once all the facial features are in place, allow your Reese’s Easter Bunnies to set completely. Refrigerating them for about 10-15 minutes will help everything firm up quickly and ensure they hold their shape.

Creative Presentation Ideas for Your Easter Bunnies
While you could simply lay your finished Reese’s Easter Bunnies on a platter, I really love the look of their little ears sticking up, giving them a more animated and engaging appearance. Here’s a clever way I discovered to display them standing:
First, create a vibrant “grass” base. I did this by dyeing some shredded coconut green. Simply add your desired amount of sweetened shredded coconut to a Ziploc bag, drop in a few drops of green food coloring, seal the bag, and shake vigorously until the coconut is evenly colored. Spread this green coconut “grass” over a serving plate or platter.
Next, clear out small areas within the coconut grass and place large marshmallows upright. These marshmallows serve as excellent, edible supports for your Reese’s Bunnies. They are sturdy enough to hold the weight of the peanut butter cups and offer an extra treat for anyone enjoying the display – my boys absolutely loved this part!

Once your marshmallow supports are in place, gently rest your completed Reese’s Easter Bunnies up against them. The flat base of the peanut butter cup will sit nicely against the marshmallow, allowing the ears to proudly stand tall.

Cute, right? The best part about making these bunnies is that there’s truly no right or wrong way to do it. Embrace the creativity! I had a blast experimenting with a variety of different color combinations for the eyes, whiskers, and even using different shades of candy coating for the ears. Honestly, I love them all, and each one has its own unique character.

Tips and Tricks for Perfect Reese’s Easter Bunnies
- Work in Batches: When melting candy coating, it’s easier to work with smaller amounts (e.g., a few ounces at a time). This prevents the coating from hardening in your bag or bowl before you’re done, especially when piping ears or attaching small features.
- Parchment Paper is Key: Always use parchment paper for piping the ears. It prevents sticking and allows for easy removal once the coating has hardened.
- Chill to Set: For quicker setting of the candy coating at any stage, pop the items into the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes. This is especially helpful after attaching the ears and the facial features.
- Experiment with Reese’s: While the classic Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup is fantastic, don’t hesitate to try other varieties! White chocolate Reese’s offer a different flavor profile and a lighter aesthetic, while dark chocolate Reese’s could add a rich twist.
- Alternative Whiskers: If you don’t have jimmies, thin pretzel sticks or even edible marker lines could work as whiskers.
- Storage: Store your completed Reese’s Easter Bunnies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or in the refrigerator if your home is particularly warm. Separate layers with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Kid’s Involvement: Let children take charge of decorating! They often come up with the most creative and charming bunny faces. It’s about the fun of creation as much as the final product.

Keyword: Reese’s bunnies, Easter treats, peanut butter cups
Prep Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 10 bunnies
Author: Trish – Mom On Timeout
Ingredients
- 10 white chocolate Reese’s peanut butter cups or regular Reese’s peanut butter cups
- 10 pink marshmallows (from a Fun Mallows bag for ideal size)
- 20 white mini marshmallows (for cheeks)
- 60 jimmies (sprinkles) of assorted colors (brown, white, green, pink, etc., for whiskers)
- 16 oz white candy coating (CandiQuik, Ghirardelli, or Wilton wafers work well)
- pink sugar (for inner ears)
- 20 mini M&M’s (blue, green, brown, or any color for eyes)
- 1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut (for hair and optional green grass display)
- Large marshmallows (for display, optional)
- Green food coloring (for coconut grass, optional)
Instructions
Ears
- Melt white (vanilla) candy coating according to package directions. For easier piping, transfer a few ounces at a time to a heavy-duty ziploc bag.
- Snip off a small corner of the bag with scissors. Pipe ear shapes onto parchment paper. Create enough sets for all your bunnies, plus one or two extras. Allow to harden completely (you can refrigerate to speed this up).
- Once ears are hard, pipe a small amount of melted candy coating onto the base of each ear where the pink inner ear will go. Sprinkle generously with pink sugar and let dry.
Face Assembly
- Pipe a small amount of melted candy coating to the bottom of each hardened ear. Gently press a Reese’s peanut butter cup onto the coated end of the ears, positioning them on top of the cup. Let set.
- Cut each pink marshmallow in half crosswise for the nose. Cut the bottom third off of each white mini marshmallow to flatten them for cheeks. Use a tiny dot of melted candy coating to adhere the marshmallows to the Reese’s cup if needed, otherwise, their natural stickiness should suffice.
- Using a tiny bit of melted candy coating as “glue,” attach two mini M&M’s for the eyes and six jimmies (three on each side) for the whiskers. Dip a small pinch of shredded coconut into the coating and place it between the ears for hair.
- Allow all the assembled bunnies to set up completely. Refrigerating them can expedite this process.
Display (Optional)
- To create green coconut grass, place shredded coconut in a ziploc bag with a few drops of green food coloring. Shake until evenly coated. Spread onto a serving plate.
- Arrange large marshmallows upright on the plate, cleared from the coconut grass, to act as supports. Rest your finished Reese’s Easter Bunnies against the marshmallows for a fun, standing display.
