Are Acai Bowls Really Healthy? Learn The Truth!

They’re everywhere. They’re delicious and refreshing, and popular for the millennial generation. When I tried one for the first time, I was in love with it. It was delicious and satisfying. They taste like ice cream, look and feel like ice cream, and are delicious when eaten. You can be sure that any café selling juices and smoothies will also offer acai bowls.

Acai bowls were first popularized for their superfood ingredient, acai berry. They have since become a common staple. They’re packed with antioxidants and are a favorite among fitness enthusiasts. But do acai bowls really have any health benefits?

What Is Acai Bowls Made Of?

Acai bowls consist of thick smoothie bowls filled with toppings. They are made from acai (pronounced “AH-sigh”-EE). Acai, a superfood that looks like grapes, is made from the acai palm tree in South American rainforests. Acai has dark purple skin with yellow fleshy seeds. They are usually eaten after meals or in their unsweetened form.

Because of its short shelf life, acai is often frozen or powdered. Acai’s taste is described as a mix of unsweetened chocolate and blackberries.

Benefits Of Acai Bowls

Benefits Of Acai Bowls

Protects You Heart

Acai has many health benefits, including protecting your heart. Udani et al. (2011) conducted a study in which 10 overweight people were given 100g of acai pulp twice daily over one month. The results showed a decrease in fasting glucose levels and insulin after the 30 days and a reduction in total cholesterol.

Contains Anti-Cancer Properties

The pigments in berries are anthocyanins. These pigments give certain vegetables and fruits their deep violet color. They also help to reduce the chance of developing cancer.

Fights For Free Radicals

Acai berries are a superfood because of their antioxidants. According to a study, they have the highest antioxidant potential of any food. These acai berries protect skin from free radicals, which can cause premature aging.

Boosts Immune System

Even at a low dose, acai may help improve immune function. It’s also rich in vitamin C.

Pain Reduction

One study found that over 3 months of daily acai consumption, the antioxidant levels of the fruit increased while pain levels dropped.

Caution

Although acai in its purest form can be extremely nutritious and healthy, it is also very nutritional and healthful. However, because acai has a naturally bitter taste, many acai bowls purchased from retail stores aren’t always the best for your health. They are often sweetened with artificial sugars or syrups. Acai bowls are often blended with three to four whole bananas or berries. They can also be topped with nut butter or sweetened granola and chocolate and other fruits.

It is high in calories and sugar, with some bowls exceeding 600 calories. It is important to pay attention to the portion sizes of your acai bowls, depending on where they are purchased.

The Best Homemade Acai Recipe

The Best Homemade Acai Recipe

This is my favorite acai recipe for breakfast and as a nutritious snack.

Ingredients

  • Frozen acai puree
  • Frosted bananas and mixed berries
  • For the topping, nuts, fresh fruits, coconut chips, and other toppings
  • Honey (or agave).

Froze Your Bowl

This keeps the smoothie from scalding once poured into your bowl.

Prepare Your Toppings

I prefer to chop all fruits and nuts to prevent them from melting.

Blend The Acai

Blend half an avocado, honey, agave, frozen banana, and frozen mixed fruits. Blend until smooth. Add the frozen acai packet to your mixture and blend again.

Add the acai to the frozen bowls, top, and eat immediately!

Last Words

Acai bowls are healthy and can be a part of a healthy diet. However, you need to limit the amount of sugar and control the portion sizes. Making your own acai bowls can be a great option. It will allow you to control what you put in them.
